Should you be transcribing your podcast?

Well, if you’re using that podcast to funnel traffic to a product or service you offer, then yes you do.

There are a lot of reasons why.

But, for the sake of brevity, I’ll go over a few.

The first reason is searchability.

We do not have the technology yet of search engines being able to pick up content in video or audio unless we tag it with the specific search phrase.

Everything you’re touching on in that show – unless you specifically tag that episode with everything or included everything in the overview – then you’re missing out on traffic.

What I suggest you do is tag the radio show and do the overview for the main points, but get the show transcribed and put it on your website or blog and send the traffic there – because that’s where you ultimately want them to end up anyway.

It gives you written content.

Each episode of your podcast will give you content for a month.

A 30-minute audio will get you two to three blog posts, and a 60-minute show will get you four or five (maybe even six).

If your show isn’t a model where you’re interviewing other people and you’re giving your content, that gives you the perfect base for a book or other product.

If you’re using show to interview other people, and it’s their content, I would still get it transcribed because it associates you more with that person.

For example, if I interviewed Oprah, don’t you think I would want to get that transcribed? Yes!

How many people do you think search for “Oprah interview transcript”?

Try it for yourself.

How many times have you stumbled upon a site you liked when you weren’t even searching for it?

This relates back to searchability.

You’re also appealing to a larger audience.

I may not want to sit through a 60-minute podcast at my computer.

Sure, I can download it and save it for later and listen while I’m on the treadmill.

But, I may take 10 or 15 minutes to read the transcript – or even five minutes to see if it’s something I’m interested in.

Let’s say I did listen to the whole 30- or 60-minute show and I remembered you said something about an herb I could use to help me sleep at night, but I couldn’t remember the name of it.

If I can’t remember the episode you talked about it and you didn’t tag it with that – or even if I did remember the specific show – I don’t want to have to scroll through that whole show to find that one thing, because I may not remember where in the audio you even said it.

But if you have the transcript, I can easily find it.

If you have a well-done transcript, you can also easily engage in video marketing by using the content in the show and putting it on YouTube.

Now you’re really rocking it out because, with that one show, you’re engaging with your audience in audio, written, and video.

You’re opening yourself up to – and appealing to – a whole new audience.

So get your podcast transcribed and splatter yourself and your message all over the Internet in all different forms!
